Books, Boots, & a Bumble – Bloggers are Beautiful

It’s been a particularly lovely couple of weeks. I’ve been sicker than a dog (which one, I can’t fathom – every dog I currently know is jumping around with vibrant health) BUT I’ve had ample time to catch up on my reading. Sometimes being sick allows one (me) to have a legitimate excuse to do nothing but read for 8 hours at the exclusion of doing anything else…for anyone else.

Anyway, during my convalescence, I had the great fortune to read blogger friend Carrie Rubin’sThe Seneca Scourge” – it was freakin’ EXCELLENT.  I read it on my nook and Carrie then sent me a COPY of her book. I was so overjoyed…I still am! I want to thank Carrie from the BOTTOM of my happy heart.  And people, READ THIS BOOK.

In an interesting twist of whatever, I actually live 1 block north of Seneca Street.  Not that the title has anything to do with my street or any street…but, well, you know me and coinkidinks.

I also ordered myself a real live copy of “The Bellman Chronicles: Shining a Light on Mankind’s Missteps From The Trenches…” I’ve been giggling ever since. I love reading The Hook’s blog. His book is a treat to pick up and read in small spurts between rounds of “Mom, can you get/do <insert noun> for me?” and “Denise, can you get/do <insert noun> for me? “  Between my husband and my son, you’d think they were both without limbs or viable means of movement.  But back to the point – good stuff…you’ll learn so much…especially about Hook’s feelings for ‘spunk’.

And I thought, “Ah life is good – can it get any better?”  Damn straight it can! Through the magic (again) of online comments a very WONDERFUL, GENEROUS, and SHY blogger read that I have a love for Doc Martin boots.  She sent me a private email asking me if I’d like to have some BRAND NEW 20 EYE DOC MARTIN BOOTS in a size 8 because she’d received these boots and they did not fit either her daughter or her.  GUESS WHAT??? THAT’S MY EXACT SIZE!!!  I was overwhelmed with joy! And despite my repeatedly asking if I could at least pay for shipping (which she would not allow), she sent them to me.  How FREAKIN’ awesome is that?

Many thanks to my blogging friend for being so generous; it’s bummer that she’s too shy to let me reveal her name.  I figured that might be case – and I will respect that.  Maybe she’ll read this and ‘out’ herself…

So I have some boots and some books and a lot of mush in my heart for these amazing people who are beyond gracious.  I now want to ship every blogger I know homemade cheesecake so they can feel the zing of excitement when the UPS person rings their doorbell with a package.

And I thought to myself, “Ah life is good – can it get any better?”   Well, you know the answer… YES!

On Monday, I went to my blog and saw a pingback from my new marvy blog friend at The Bumble Files – so I went there and imagine my complete and utter surprise:

She highlighted one of my stories in her new Post of the Week segment. And then all these lovely people came and read and commented and made me feel even more soggy inside.

I’m truly delighted – especially since I’d been reading about how excellent The Bumble Files blog was from other bloggers and when I checked it out – it was TRUE.  She is a talented writer.  I mean she’s been featured on A Clown on Fire – which is pretty effin’ prestigious (no tongue in cheek); oh yeah, she’s been Freshly Pressed too….

Thank you everyone – you all are fabulous.  Love to you all – in droves!

  2. This is soooo happy! Love your boots! I don’t think I could pull them off. But I love them! Also… please send me cheesecake? I have made very great friends with one of my readers; she lives in Spain and sent me THE MOST awesome Christmas package. I know that happy UPS at the door feeling! It totally renews your faith in PEOPLE, even if they are invisible internet people. Also: you are basically amazing, so you deserve all the good press.

What a bunch of warm fuzzies!! So happy for you 🙂

I’m also reading Carrie’s ebook. Stayed up until midnight the other night. Never expected the sci-fi twist 🙂

I think I had those same boots a very, very long time ago. Can’t blame you for the love, though.

    Those boots rock!

  8. I have read Carrie’s book and it was excellent except for the parts where McDreamy fails to show up and screw the main character in the janitor’s closet. I’m hoping she works on that in the next book. I have not read the Bellman one – I have to look into that. Thanks for the recommendations!

Post of the week on Bumble? That is cool. 😀

Don’t you just love The Hook’s book? I read the real live version (didn’t even order the e-version; held it in my hands!). He’s an entertaining writer. I haven’t read The Seneca Scourge yet but it’s on my “to read” shelf. I’m glad your blogger friends” books helped you through your illness. Which reminds me that I have to go through my editor’s edits and fix my book when I get a chance and get moving on it again. I seem to be stuck at the moment by inertia. Glad you’re feeling better.

Now THIS is why blogging is great! Nice boots, love your pants 😀

  11. Isn’t blogging awesome?! For the swag alone! Since we don’t get paid to do this then there should be prizes involved.

Denise, you are looking Fly™ in those Docs if I don’t say so myself. The Hook’s book IS great for reading in short spurts. In fact, I think I’ll do just that tonight :). I’ll have to check out Carries as well.

  13. "HE WHO" says:

I agree with unfetteredbs and Carrie. What goes around does indeed come around – sometimes in wonderful ways like yours have, Lady Rutabaga, and sometimes it bites you in the ass. It’s nice to hear that something good happened!

  15. Carrie Rubin says:

See? All the good Karma you’ve put out into the world is coming back to you now. And it really is the little, unexpected things that make life so much fun. Thank you for the mention of my blog and my book. Very kind of you! And I agree; those other bloggers are amazing folks, indeed.

    Thank you!

  16. Oh, sweetness, Denise, you made my day!!! My turn now…AWWWWWWWWW….It was my pleasure to give you the stage at my blog, and look at how well received you were. I know a good thing when I see it, or, uh, read it, you know what I mean. What a great week for you, indeed! I guess I need to get in line for some boots.

  17. Le Clown says:
