Who am I to buck a trend? Several of my blogging friends have been participating in the 5×5 thingamajiggy – it started with Benzeknees and just spread out like ooooooze from a wound. Vanessa, Carrie Rubin and Rarasaur have all joined in and if it’s good enough for those ladies, well – ’nuff said.
5 Things I Am Passionate About
- Reading
- Books (which is slightly different than reading because I like to collect books – especially reference books)
- Music
- Cooking/Baking
- Talking
- Avoiding Buttons – which is more than 5 but worthy of inclusion. Know your intolerances and avoid them, like the plague.
5 Things I Would Like to Do Before I Die
- Not die
- Learn Russian
- Meet some of my favorite authors and musicians (I’ve achieved some of this already)
- Have a house with a built in library
- Play ice hockey again
5 Things I Say A Lot
- As well
- That bodes ill
- Turn down the volume! (on the TV)
- What can I say about this elixir?
- Can I have a bite?
5 Books or Magazines I have Read Lately
- The Anatomist’s Apprentice – Tessa Harris
- When Christ and His Saints Slept – Sharon K Penman
- A Short Stay in Hell – Steven L Peck
- Too Many Cooks – Rex Stout
- Here Be Dragons – Sharon K Penman
5 Favorite Movies
- Waiting for Guffman (all Christopher Guest movies)
- Crybaby
- Fargo (all Coen Brothers movies)
- Hairspray
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail (all Monty Python movies)
And there you go – enthralling, eh?
I’m lifting this right off of Vanessa’s post – forgive my transgression…
If you want to join in, then please link back toBenzeknees so that she can see how widely it has gone. Or feel free to just answer any or all of them in the comments section below…

Haha! My favorite is to not die before you die. 🙂
I have lofty goals…
Speaking Russian might come in handy right now for understanding NSA-intercepted communiqués. It could be a whole new career.
I was hoping for McDonalds in Moscow.
Thanks for participating! Loved your answers!
Thanks for thinking up!
“What can I say about this elixir?” —that made me Lol. How does that manage to come up so often? :-))
I can apply absurdity to most any situation, Deanna!
Ah yes…Monty Python. I think what i like most about it is how they created it…simple…cheap and a cult classic.
Ans, Rex Stout. Now that’s a blast from the past. I think I read every book he wrote…thirty years ago!
I love Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin – have read them all and re-read them often!
I love pretty much everything about Monthy Pyton 🙂 They are so smart – I love smart comedy.
I think I read them at least three times. At one time, I had the Nero Wolfe cookbook. I know for sure we made griddle cakes. Unfortunately, I lost the book in one of my moves. 😦
I have that cookbook too! His food tastes do not run parallel to mine, I have to say, but I love the having the book.
I have to admit, when I really like an author, I do steal a little bit of their life and keep it for myself…like buying cookbooks (not the only one I have). 🙂
And I applaud you in that!
Thanks for the top and tail double shout-out! These sort of listy things are great aren’t they, they’re fun to answer, and it’s fun to read other people’s to find out extra things about our blogging buds.
Do you have a button phobia then? If so, what sort of buttons? Like the sort on a shirt, or the sort you press, or the sort you pin on to your clothing? I have a friend with a button phobia (the shirt kind) and he says that he doesn’t mind very functional buttons, like on a shirt (how many times can I say “shirt” in one comment?), but what he can’t stand are the more decorative ones, like when I had a pair of three-quarter length legging type trousers with some buttons on the side at the bottom, he couldn’t bear it because they didn’t serve a purpose other than to be decorative.
I like your “Can I have a bite?” saying!
I am repulsed by ALL buttons – and it’s good to know I’m not alone… apparently, it’s a mis-wiring in my brain!

“Is there room for doubt?” “No, the ambiguity has taken up all the space.” Ha! As a new follower, I am pleased to find another Python afficiendo.
Whoo hoo!!
Hee hee –
Really? You like Monty Python?
I would never have guessed! 😉
Nice answers. A good look at the Librarian behind the Rutabaga!
I’m more than just a root veggie 😉
We need to have a film fest!!! Your favorite movie list is almost identical to mine! (I’ve never seen Fargo.)
You’ve NEVER seen FARGO??? You must remedy that IMMEDIATELY. It’s on Netflex streaming if you have that.
I’m with Carrie. Not dying is a good idea. Why haven’t people thought of this.before.
Who knows???
You area. Lear,y smarter than the average bear.
ha – doubtful!
iPad strikes again?? 😉
Oy. Probably. My operator errors are usually more subtle.
Lol.
My skilz allowed me to read it 🙂
What a woman!
Right?
Awww, Denise. I love it. I especially like: What can I say about this elixir? I can totally hear you saying this one. And that you collect reference books. Of course you do! I already knew that you want to speak Russian. It’s never too late.
Da! I can speak a little bit of Russian – I want to find a live class to take!!
I stole that elixir line off of a Zappa album – I’ve always loved it 🙂
And yes, I’m nerdy about reference books…
You are right – it’s NEVER too late! spasiba!
Ne Za Schto!
🙂
“Not die”—Best bucket-list item ever!
Thanks for the mention. Happy weekend. 🙂
